Like every web designer on the planet, finding ways to improve my skills and inspire my practice is always a top priority for me.   While most of my learning is online, I still have a deep love for the old fashioned paper based book to inspire me, entertain me and often help me grew.

Here are the top 3 books currently on my reading list.

Design Is a Job by Mike Monteiro

This is one of those books, that gives you  some key insights, that border the line between genius and down to earth common sense, when going about the job of being a designer.  Monteiro combines humor and sarcasm with important insights that will be helpful to any designer whatever their fields.

Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, by Noah Yuval Harari.

I’m currently reading this and it covers those basic questions of why we, as human being, have evolved the way we have.    The idea that our brilliance stems from our ability to take a leap and believe in things we can not always proof.  Our ability to discover and invent coming from those moments of imagination and jumps of faith.   This ides is not to be confused, I hope, with the ability to believe things that we have strong evidence against.

The Book of Dust by William Pullman

Now this one I can’t review, as it is not out yet.   As a massive fan of the previous trilogy, His Dark Materials. it is at the top of my wish list.  I wait upon it with as much excitement as trepidation.   I have faith that it will live up to my hopes, yet like and fan I fear disappointment.
